The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has admitted that security operatives mandated to repel the Kuje Custodial Centre attack failed despite having made elaborate preparations.
The Minister disclosed this while speaking at the investigative hearing of the House of Representatives into the Kuje Custodial Centre attack.
The legislators investigating the July jailbreak however frowned at the absence of security chiefs at its resumed sitting.
The Committee which is investigating the attack is a joint one comprising several standing committees of the House of Representatives.
Committee Chairman, Shaaban Shara’da, in his opening remarks, condemned the inability of security operatives to rise to the occasion in spite of Intelligence reports.
But as the investigative hearing began, Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbeosola, admitted errors on the part of security operatives positioned to tame the possible attack.
He said the security operatives failed in that regard.
The Minister going further said the Federal Government through the Ministry will step up efforts to ensure that such an incident does not re-occur.
He asked for legislative support to ensure this becomes reality.
Lawmakers also made some interventions before the meeting entered into a closed door session.
The committee frowned at the absence of security chiefs including the Minister of Police Affairs
The Committee is also mandated to identify the extent to which appropriate authorities within the National security sector have played their roles in responding to the Kuje attack.
